Jakob Ingebrigtsen wins 5000m European title in Birmingham return

Jakob Ingebrigtsen made a successful return to competition at the European Championships in Birmingham, winning his fourth consecutive 5000m title. The Norwegian athlete, who had been sidelined since February due to an Achilles injury and surgery, clocked a season-best time of 13:15.29. After trailing the field for much of the race, Ingebrigtsen used a late surge to overtake his rivals.

Germany’s Florian Bremm secured the silver medal with a time of 13:15.60, while France’s Etienne Daguinos took bronze in 13:16.09. This victory marks Ingebrigtsen’s seventh European title overall.

Norway also achieved success in the 4x400m mixed relay, where the team of Karsten Warholm, Amalie Iuel, Andreas Kulseng, and Henriette Jæger won gold. The quartet set a new championship record and a European leading time of 3:09.62, finishing ahead of Great Britain and the Netherlands.
