Jakob Ingebrigtsen wins 5,000m at Ultimate Championships

Norwegian runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the men’s 5,000m title at the inaugural Ultimate Championships in Budapest, Hungary, with a time of 12:59.24. The victory marks a significant comeback for the Olympic champion following an Achilles tendon surgery and a period of injury recovery.

Ingebrigtsen secured the win with a powerful final sprint, defeating reigning world champion Cole Hocker of the United States, who finished second in 13:00.05, and Parker Wolfe, who took third. The race featured a strong American presence, with several runners finishing closely behind the leaders.

Following the win, Ingebrigtsen expressed surprise at being ranked 12th in pre-race predictions by World Athletics. He also confirmed via social media that he will not compete in the upcoming 1,500m event to avoid the physical strain of running two high-intensity races back-to-back during his recovery. For his first-place finish, Ingebrigtsen earned a prize of $150,000.
