Jakob Ingebrigtsen wins 5000m title at World Athletics Ultimate Championship

Jakob Ingebrigtsen secured victory in the men’s 5000m final at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, finishing with a time of 12:59.24. American runner Cole Hocker took second place in 13:00.05, followed closely by Parker Wolfe, Nico Young, Grant Fisher, and Graham Blanks, with the top five finishers separated by only 0.35 seconds.

The race follows recent tensions in the middle-distance running community. Following a Diamond League final in Brussels, Ingebrigtsen criticized race tactics and labeled rivals “cowards” and “losers,” though he later apologized for the latter term. In response to these comments, Australian runner Adam Spencer labeled the Norwegian a “sore loser.”

Speaking after the Budapest race, Hocker maintained a composed stance, stating he was racing the entire field rather than focusing specifically on Ingebrigtsen. He emphasized respect for all competitors on the global stage and noted his commitment to giving 100% in every race.
