Jakob Rastetter wins U23 European silver in double sculls
Jakob Rastetter and Jesse Ilsemann secured the silver medal in the double sculls at the U23 European Rowing Championships held in Kruszwica, Poland.
Despite facing significant preparation challenges, including a cold and a hand injury that limited Rastetter’s ability to train in the boat, the duo managed to find their rhythm during the competition. The pair, representing Hanauer Ruderclub Hassia and RG Hansa Hamburg respectively, competed against a strong field that included the 2025 world champions from Italy, who took the bronze medal.
The German duo pulled ahead of the field at approximately the 1,000-meter mark, maintaining their position to finish second. Rastetter noted that the achievement was particularly significant given they had only been able to train together in the double sculls for about one and a half weeks prior to the championship.
