Jakob Schubert and Jessica Pilz lead Austrian climbing team at European Championships

The European Climbing Championships will take place in Laval, France, from Friday to Sunday, featuring competitions in Lead, Speed, and Para-climbing. The 22-member Austrian Climbing Federation (KVÖ) squad is led by veteran climbers Jakob Schubert and Jessica Pilz.

Jakob Schubert, a four-time Lead World Champion and two-time Olympic bronze medalist, aims to secure his first European title in his signature Lead discipline. Despite a ninth-place finish in Chamonix, Schubert expressed confidence in his form and noted the increased competitiveness of the current European field. This event marks his final competition of the season.

Jessica Pilz, a former World Champion, also seeks her first European gold in Lead following strong performances in the World Cup circuit. Additionally, the Austrian team looks to secure medals in Para-climbing, with athletes such as Jasmin Plank and Angelino Zeller competing at the start of the championships.
