Jakobstad Beaches Safe as Water Tests Find No Harmful Algae

Kallan Environmental Health is monitoring the quality of bathing water at Jakobstad’s public beaches throughout the 2026 swimming season, which runs until 31 August. Samples are taken three times at smaller beaches and four times at larger EU‑designated sites, including Kittholmen, Karhusaari, Isohiekka, Pikkuhiekka and the Fäboda Café Beach.

The most recent sampling on 13 July showed no cyanobacteria (blue‑green algae) or other health‑hazardous factors. Authorities therefore deem swimming at the Jakobstad beaches currently safe, while warning that algae blooms can develop rapidly and advising the public on simple stick‑tests and precautionary measures if blooms occur.
