Jakov Milatović addresses UN on Gaza and two-state solution

Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović addressed the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, focusing on the conflict in Gaza and the necessity of a just and lasting peace.

Milatović emphasized that the international community's primary responsibility is the protection of human lives and adherence to international humanitarian law. He called for the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.

Regarding the regional conflict, Milatović stated that Israelis deserve lasting security, while Palestinians deserve dignity, freedom, and a sustainable, independent state. He reaffirmed Montenegro's support for a two-state solution reached through negotiations, where Israel and an independent Palestine coexist in peace, security, and mutual recognition through dialogue and diplomacy.

Additionally, Milatović noted that while Montenegro condemned the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, such actions should not serve as a justification for the collective punishment of civilians.
