Jakub Dobeš faces competition for Montreal Canadiens starting goaltender role

Czech goaltender Jakub Dobeš is facing intense competition for the starting role with the Montreal Canadiens following a breakout performance last season. After winning 10 of 14 games since March and leading the team to the conference finals, Dobeš remains cautious about his position. He noted that the team has a strong trio of goaltenders, including Samuel Montembeault and Jacob Fowler, and stated, “We will all fight for it. Whoever deserves it most will play.”

Montreal General Manager Kent Hughes has indicated that the team may only carry two goaltenders heading into the regular season. Dobeš recently contributed to a 3-2 overtime preseason victory against the Ottawa Senators, where he entered the game to replace Montembeault, conceded only one goal, and recorded an assist.

Other Czech players also saw action in NHL preseason preparations. Michal Postava appeared for Detroit, while defenseman David Špaček recorded a point for Minnesota.
