Jakub Landovský defends defense spending and debt usage

Jakub Landovský, the government representative for fulfilling NATO obligations, has addressed both his political stance on national debt and his personal connection to his late father, dissident actor Pavel Landovský.

Regarding economic policy, Landovský argued that increased state debt is acceptable if directed toward meaningful investments in defense and economic growth. He cited Poland as an example of a country successfully balancing high defense spending with economic expansion. He emphasized that investments should focus on dual-use infrastructure, including energy, cyber security, and transport, rather than unproductive spending. He also expressed openness toward the ‘Europatriot’ initiative, a project aimed at strengthening European air defense.

On a personal level, Landovský responded to questions regarding his work alongside the Babiš administration in light of his father’s history as a persecuted dissident and Charter 77 signatory. He stated that his father was not a ‘bitter moral beacon’ and would not have judged his decisions based on past political labels, noting that individuals must adapt to a rapidly changing world.
