Jakub Starnyura’s bestseller ‘In August’ released in Macedonian

The publishing house Antolog has released the Macedonian translation of the bestselling novel ‘In August’ by Czech author Jakub Starnyura. Translated by Margarita Karajanova, the psychological novel explores themes of gaslighting and the blurring lines between truth and illusion.

The story follows Daniela, a student of English language and literature, who experiences recurring loss and anxiety every August. While she seeks refuge in reading and writing, a new relationship with a man named Stepan initially appears to be an escape from her past, only to reveal deeper complications.

The publication was supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe program, specifically the ‘Circulation of European Literary Works’ sub-programme, as well as the Ministry of Culture of North Macedonia. Starnyura, a graduate of Charles University in Prague, saw his debut novel become a bestseller and receive a theatrical adaptation following its 2023 release.
