Jakub Wiech fails doctoral defense amid plagiarism allegations

Jakub Wiech, a former editor-in-chief of Energetyka24 and an advocate for renewable energy, failed to defend his doctoral dissertation regarding the impact of EU law on the Polish natural gas market. The defense resulted in a split vote of three in favor, three against, and four abstentions.

Allegations of academic misconduct have surfaced, including claims from the Institute of Economic Analysis and Expertise regarding the absence of a promised analytical model, citation errors, and partial plagiarism. Furthermore, the Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW), a state think tank, reported that approximately 2.5 percent of the dissertation consisted of text copied directly from its analyses without attribution. OSW has formally contacted the University of Warsaw regarding these findings.
