Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons appear to be narrowing the gap in contract negotiations. While a discrepancy remains between Duren’s camp, which has reportedly sought more than $40 million annually, and the Pistons’ offers in the mid-$30 million range, recent conversations suggest a potential resolution before training camp.

Duren, 22, enters negotiations following a breakout season where he averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, earning All-Star honors and third-team All-NBA recognition. If a deal is not reached, Duren could opt for a $9.6 million qualifying offer, which would make him an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Despite his regular-season success, Duren faced scrutiny for a statistical decline during the playoffs. Following a 60-win regular season that secured the Pistons the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, Duren’s postseason scoring average dropped to 10.2 points per game during a series against the Orlando Magic and a subsequent second-round exit against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
