Jalen Duren signs five-year, $200 million extension with Detroit Pistons
Jalen Duren has agreed to a five-year, $200 million fully guaranteed contract extension with the Detroit Pistons, ending a months-long standoff regarding his future with the franchise.
The 22-year-old All-NBA center reached the agreement shortly before a midnight deadline to sign a $9.6 million qualifying offer. The negotiation process was marked by tension, including reports of Duren feeling disrespected and rumors regarding a weight clause that was ultimately removed from the final deal. Duren had missed the start of training camp and media day due to the ongoing dispute.
Duren, who was selected 13th overall in 2022, had a career-best season last year, averaging 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. While his production dipped during the playoffs, the Pistons organization has reaffirmed that Duren and Cade Cunningham remain the core pillars of the team’s future.
