Jalen Duren rejects $200M contract offer from Detroit Pistons
Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons remain at an impasse regarding a contract extension. The Pistons have reportedly increased their offer to a five-year, $200 million fully guaranteed deal, but Duren has rejected the proposal.
Negotiations have been complicated by the inclusion of weight-related incentives in the Pistons' offers, a detail that has reportedly caused hesitancy for the 22-year-old All-Star center. Duren is reportedly seeking a supermax deal worth approximately $287 million over five years, citing his All-NBA Third Team honors as justification for his market value.
As training camp approaches, Duren faces several options. He could accept a $9.6 million qualifying offer, which would allow him to play the season in Detroit and become an unrestricted free agent next summer. While the Pistons have reportedly been adamant about not entertaining a sign-and-trade scenario, other teams including the Milwaukee Bucks and Sacramento Kings have shown interest in the center.
If an agreement is not reached, Duren may skip media day or the start of training camp. The standoff highlights a disagreement over valuation, with the Pistons citing Duren’s performance dip during the postseason as a reason for a more conservative financial commitment.
