Jalen Duren agrees to $200 million extension with Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons have reached a five-year, $200 million contract extension with All-NBA center Jalen Duren. The fully guaranteed deal follows a prolonged restricted free agency period that lasted several months and included reports of tension between the player and the organization.
Duren, 22, had missed the start of training camp and media day during the negotiations. Reports indicated that Duren felt undervalued during the process and had previously been offered deals that included specific weight clauses, which were reportedly removed in the final agreement. To resolve the standoff, Pistons owner Tom Gores reportedly met with Duren to discuss the situation and mend the relationship.
Head coach J. B. Bickerstaff and president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon expressed enthusiasm about Duren remaining a core piece of the franchise. Duren, a former 13th overall pick in the 2022 draft, averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game during last season’s regular season. He has since undergone a physical and is expected to rejoin the team for training activities shortly.
