Jales reopens municipal forest after seven-year revitalization
The Bosque Municipal de Jales, a 200,000 square meter area of Atlantic Forest in northwest São Paulo, has reopened to the public following a seven-year revitalization effort. The site was severely damaged by a large-scale fire in 2019, which destroyed approximately 70% of the park.
To restore the original vegetation, more than 1,500 native tree seedlings were planted, contributing to a collection of over 50 plant species. The municipal government has also implemented structural and leisure improvements, including paved walking trails, a dedicated environmental education room, picnic areas, a children's playground, and a space adapted for pets.
The park now features themed trails, such as the Folklore Trail and local fauna trails, which include exclusive sculptures. Entry to the revitalized forest is free for all visitors.
