Jalgaon: Child killed in truck accident during Kanwar Yatra
A 10-year-old boy, identified as Prabal Rajesh Gawli, died on Monday evening after being struck by a speeding truck during the Kanwar Yatra on Mamurabad Road in Jalgaon, Maharashtra.
Following the accident, an angry crowd gathered, reportedly assaulting the truck driver and individuals filming the scene on mobile phones. The protesters set the truck on fire and blocked the road by placing the child's body in the street, demanding strict action against the driver.
Firefighters arrived at the scene but were unable to extinguish the blaze for approximately two hours due to the tense atmosphere and crowd resistance. The situation was eventually de-escalated after Superintendent of Police Shrikant Dhivare spoke with the victim's family and assured them of legal action. The road blockade was cleared, and the body was sent to a government medical college for a post-mortem examination. Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident and the subsequent mob violence.
