Jalisco announces major security and water infrastructure projects

The Governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus Navarro, has announced several major technological and infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving security, connectivity, and water management in the state.

To enhance public safety, the state is investing approximately 6 billion pesos to strengthen the C5 command center. This project includes the use of artificial intelligence and facial recognition technology to assist 120 monitors in locating missing persons. Additionally, Jalisco is collaborating with Google to develop an application designed to detect patterns of forced recruitment and false job offers on social media, which is expected to be presented in roughly two months.

Regarding water infrastructure, President Claudia Sheinbaum has expressed support for three strategic projects totaling approximately 22.5 billion pesos. These include the Chapala-Guadalajara Substitute Aqueduct, the modernization of Water Treatment Plant 1, and complementary works at the El Zapotillo Dam. The new aqueduct, estimated at 10 billion pesos, aims to reduce the current 34% water loss due to leaks and could save 500 million pesos in electricity costs through more efficient pumping. The state plans to present these projects to the National Water Commission (Conagua) to finalize financing and implementation.
