Jalisco authorities announce new health, security, and environmental initiatives
The Jalisco State Congress has approved three legislative dictums aimed at improving public health through early detection of visual, auditory, and renal conditions. The reforms propose coordinated screening programs for students in primary and secondary schools, as well as neonatal auditory screening to identify hearing loss and provide access to necessary medical aids.
In security matters, the Jalisco government presented its 2027 professionalization strategy for municipal police forces. This plan, presented by the State Executive Secretariat of the Public Security Council, focuses on training, institutional strengthening, and trust evaluations to improve local law enforcement capabilities.
Additionally, state deputies have summoned members of the security cabinet and the State Environmental Protection Agency (Proepa) to testify. The hearings will address allegations of police misconduct during a recent protest and investigate environmental concerns regarding leachate contamination from the Picachos and Hasar’s landfills affecting the Milpillas River.
