Jalisco authorities deploy 6,500 personnel for Zapopan Romería
Authorities in Jalisco, Guadalajara, and Zapopan have announced a massive inter-institutional security and operational plan for the 292nd Romería of the Virgin of Zapopan. To protect the 9.2-kilometer procession between the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Basilica of Zapopan, more than 6,500 security and emergency personnel will be deployed, including state, municipal, and federal forces.
The event is expected to draw a large crowd, following the 2025 attendance of approximately three million pilgrims. The procession will feature over 40,000 dancers from Jalisco and neighboring states such as Michoacán, Querétaro, Zacatecas, and the State of Mexico.
Logistical measures include gradual road closures in Guadalajara and Zapopan, modifications to public transport routes, and the enforcement of a ‘dry law’ (prohibition of alcohol sales and consumption) in designated areas. The religious activities begin on October 9 with the arrival of the image at the Cathedral, continuing through October 12. To manage the crowds, authorities will utilize drones, helicopters, mobile command centers, medical modules, and hydration stations.
