Jalisco Avocado Congress focuses on export competitiveness
The tenth edition of the Jalisco Avocado Congress opened in Ciudad Guzmán, bringing together over 1,700 producers, exporters, researchers, and specialists to address industry challenges and opportunities. Jalisco currently ranks as Mexico's second-largest avocado producer, contributing approximately 10% of the national volume, with a 2025 production of 277,000 tons.
Industry leaders and state officials, including Eduardo Ron Ramos, Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development for Jalisco, emphasized the need for increased competitiveness through technology, specialized knowledge, and sanitary standards. Ramos highlighted the importance of sanitary protocols to maintain access to international markets, particularly the United States. He also encouraged the transition toward regenerative agriculture to balance environmental health with economic profitability.
Jalisco has established a strong export presence, shipping 164,180 tons to more than 30 countries in 2025. Since July 2022, the state has held strategic authorization from the USDA to export Hass avocados to the United States, making it the second Mexican state permitted to do so after Michoacán.
