Jalisco begins Chapala Highway expansion near Guadalajara Airport

The Jalisco state government has launched the second stage of the Chapala Highway modernization project. Led by Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro, the works will cover 5.3 kilometers from the Guadalajara International Airport to the El Salto highway junction.

The project aims to expand the capacity of this vital industrial and logistics corridor, maintaining a 12-lane configuration. Key improvements include hydraulic concrete paving, new lateral lanes, a segregated cycle path, sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping. The infrastructure overhaul also includes the renewal of hydro-sanitary and storm drainage systems, along with new urban furniture and signage.

A central component of the expansion is the Mi Macro Aeropuerto transit line, which will add five new stations: El Refugio, La Selva, San Vicente, El Zapote, and El Salto. Each station will feature a pedestrian bridge to facilitate safe crossings. The works are expected to be completed by the first half of 2027, benefiting the municipalities of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, El Salto, Juanacatlán, Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos, and Chapala.
