Jalisco expands real-time public transport tracking to regional cities

The Jalisco Secretariat of Transport (SETRAN) is expanding its real-time public transportation tracking system to municipalities outside the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area. Puerto Vallarta will be the first region to implement this digital tool, followed by Lagos de Moreno, Ciudad Guzmán, and Tepatitlán de Morelos.

The system allows users to view the live location of vehicles and estimate arrival times at stops. This initiative is part of a broader modernization project; all units in the targeted routes have been equipped with GPS for the past five years to support this technological transition.

While the digitalization aims to improve trip planning, local reports indicate that regional cities still face challenges regarding vehicle frequency and shortages. In areas like Lagos de Moreno, users have reported long wait times and overcrowded units during peak hours. The state government has previously committed to ensuring that 100 percent of buses are in service by the end of 2026.
