Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus cancels public address to prioritize water crisis
Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus has canceled his scheduled in-person public address for his Second Government Report. The decision aims to focus state administration efforts on addressing the water supply and quality crisis affecting the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area.
Government sources indicate that while the public event is suspended, the legal obligation to report to the state legislature remains unchanged. The administration is scheduled to present its report to the Jalisco Congress on November 6, with official hearings for state officials set to take place between November 11 and November 23.
The move follows weeks of citizen protests regarding water quality, including reports of sediment and odors in various neighborhoods. To address these issues, the government has implemented a supply rotation scheme after suspending flow from the Las Pintas dam and the old Chapala system to facilitate sanitation and purification works.
Mirza Flores, state coordinator for Movimiento Ciudadano, expressed support for the decision, stating that the governor is prioritizing practical solutions over public appearances.
