Jalisco officials investigate police conduct during water protest
Authorities in Jalisco are investigating three police commanders and 17 officers following a controversial operation during a water quality protest on October 11 in Guadalajara. The demonstration, held outside Casa Jalisco, resulted in clashes and several arrests after police used tear gas and water jets against protesters, including women, minors, and elderly citizens.
Jalisco Public Security Secretary Juan Pablo Hernández González denied issuing orders to attack the demonstrators, stating he was supervising a different area of the operation. He indicated that three commanders—two middle-ranking and one higher-ranking official—are under investigation. Officials noted that those who used unauthorized water jets without certification will face sanctions.
While the investigation is ongoing, the state's strategic security coordinator, Roberto Alarcón Estrada, stated that the names of those who ordered the repression would not be released to the media for their own protection. The Jalisco Prosecutor, Salvador González de los Santos, confirmed that investigations into allegations of torture are also open.
