Jalisco rescues: Young man and dog saved, another teen drowns in Zapotlanejo

A 28‑year‑old man and his dog were rescued early Tuesday morning after they fell into a storm‑drain canal in the Valentín Gómez Farías colonia of Guadalajara. Neighbors heard cries for help, threw a rope to keep them near the edge, and firefighters descended into the water to pull them out. Both were reported in good health and returned home without serious injury.

In a separate incident, a 19‑year‑old male drowned in the El Purgatorio reservoir at Barranca del Aguacate in the municipality of Zapotlanejo. After an initial search was halted due to poor visibility and darkness, rescue teams resumed the operation the following morning and recovered the body about 50 metres from where he was last seen. Local civil protection authorities, firefighters, the Mexican Red Cross and public security officials handled the recovery, and the body was turned over to the Institute of Forensic Sciences. Officials again warned the public to avoid entering bodies of water during the rainy season due to heightened risk.
