Jalisco resumes school activities in 33 municipalities after Hurricane Polo
The Jalisco Secretary of Education (SEJ) announced the resumption of in-person classes on Monday, September 28, across 33 municipalities. This follows a preventive suspension caused by the passage of Hurricane Polo along the Mexican Pacific coast.
The resumption applies to morning and afternoon shifts for Basic Education, Upper Secondary Education, and Teacher Training institutions. While the hurricane moved away from Jalisco, authorities noted that it left behind risks of intense rain, flooding, and high waves. In Puerto Vallarta, heavy rains caused the Cuale River to overflow and led to various floods.
Prior to the resumption, the State Civil Protection and Firefighters Unit identified 65 high-risk communities and activated 130 shelters in 14 municipalities, including Puerto Vallarta, Cabo Corrientes, Mascota, and Talpa de Allende.
