Jalisco to implement QR codes on missing persons search notices
The Jalisco State Commission for the Search of Persons (COBUPEJ) will implement a new design for missing persons search notices starting Monday, October 5. The updated format will incorporate a QR code to allow the public to verify the authenticity of the notice and check the current status of the individual through the Public Version of the State Registry of Missing Persons (REPD).
The change follows requests from search collectives and families to better distinguish official notices from unverified images shared online. The new system includes three formats: a square design optimized for social media to prioritize photographs, a horizontal image for digital signage, and a PDF version for printing and distribution during search operations.
Existing notices will remain valid during a transition period. While the REPD platform will automatically update its digital files to the new design, older posts on social media will retain their original format. The QR code aims to prevent the continued circulation of outdated information regarding individuals who may have already been located.
