Jaloon Prison detainees report severe neglect and poor conditions
The Palestinian Prisoners Affairs Commission has reported deteriorating detention, living, and health conditions for prisoners held at Jaloon Prison. According to testimonies provided to the Commission's lawyers, detainees are facing severe shortages of food, clothing, and essential personal supplies.
Specific accounts highlight significant medical neglect. Osama Fathallah al-Shanni, who has suffered from a herniated disc since a 2022 surgery, reported experiencing intense pain without access to painkillers. He noted a significant weight loss of approximately 35 kilograms due to poor nutrition. Similarly, Fadi Ahmed Abu al-Rub reported losing 15 kilograms due to malnutrition.
Reports also detail frequent raids and use of force by prison security units, including the ‘Matsada’ and ‘Yamam’ units. Prisoner Qassam Abdul Karim Shibli testified that recent raids involved the use of rubber bullets and tear gas, resulting in injuries to detainees. Prisoners also reported facing verbal provocations and insults during frequent searches of their living quarters.
