Jalpaiguri Zilla School head teacher assaulted following mid-day meal dispute

The West Bengal education department has ordered a high-level investigation into the assault of Dharmachand Barui, the head teacher of Jalpaiguri Zilla School. The incident occurred following a dispute regarding the quality of mid-day meals at the institution.

According to reports, students accused the school of providing low-quality food and alleged theft of cooking ingredients. The situation escalated when the head teacher reportedly confronted students, leading to a violent backlash where students allegedly beat him, leaving him injured. Investigators are currently reviewing video footage, which has highlighted a teenager in a blue shirt participating in the attack. Authorities are working to determine if the individual involved was a student or an outsider.

State School Education Minister Deepak Barman is scheduled to visit Jalpaiguri to review the findings. The Education Department Secretary, Binod Kumar, has directed officials to establish a clear timeline of events and investigate whether there were any pre-existing grievances or internal complaints against the head teacher. Officials have stated that strict disciplinary action will be taken against anyone found guilty of irregularities or violence.
