Jamaat-e-Islami announces nationwide sit-ins for August 16
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced a new phase of nationwide protests, scheduled to begin simultaneously across all four provinces of Pakistan on August 16. The demonstrations, led by JI Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, aim to pressure the federal government over rising fuel prices and the petroleum development levy.
Planned sit-ins will take place outside the Chief Minister's House in Punjab and various Governor Houses in Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The party claims the petroleum levy is being used to mask government corruption and criticized the high cost of living, suggesting petrol prices should be closer to Rs225 per litre.
The announcement follows recent demonstrations held at hundreds of locations across the country. JI leaders stated that these upcoming protests are part of an intensified campaign to demand economic relief for citizens struggling with inflation and unfair taxation policies.
