Jamaat-e-Islami leader urges government action on dengue
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has called on the government to take immediate and effective measures to combat dengue. Speaking at the inauguration of a nationwide ‘Dengue Prevention and Public Awareness Week’ (October 4–10) in Dhaka, Rahman criticized the government for past failures and for attempting to obscure the reality of the disease.
Rahman emphasized that the government has a moral responsibility to ensure the availability of dengue medication. He suggested that if state funds are insufficient, the market should be opened to the private sector to facilitate the rapid import of necessary treatments. He further stated that the government must act as a guardian for the people's safety rather than ignoring the crisis.
The week-long campaign includes cleanliness drives led by activists in both North and South City Corporations, moving beyond simple leaflet distribution to active community engagement.
