Jamaat-e-Islami leader warns of unfair local elections
Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and Leader of the Opposition, has raised concerns regarding the integrity of upcoming local government elections in Bangladesh. He alleged that ruling party members are threatening to withhold development funds from regions that do not elect their candidates.
Speaking in Chattogram, Rahman emphasized that the sacrifices made during the July 2024 uprising were intended to build a better nation, not to benefit looters or extortionists. He stated that the public will not tolerate injustice or oppression and that those committing crimes must be held accountable.
Additionally, the Jamaat chief addressed social issues, calling for the total elimination of drugs rather than mere control. He also urged party members to focus on solving the real problems of the people and to ignore baseless propaganda.
