Jamaat-e-Islami pledges democratic reform as DUCSU faces election uncertainty

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman issued a statement on International Democracy Day, expressing the party's commitment to strengthening and institutionalizing democracy in Bangladesh. He criticized the previous Awami League government for undermining democratic processes and emphasized that the July revolution provided a historic opportunity to build a society free from inequality and corruption.

At Dhaka University, the student organization Chhatra Dal has demanded the removal of Muhammad Ali Jinnah's portrait from the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) historical archive. The group claimed the display contradicts the university's historical heritage and the spirit of the language movement.

Meanwhile, the current DUCSU committee is approaching the end of its one-year term. According to the constitution, if an election schedule is not announced by September 14, the committee's term will automatically extend for three months until December 14. DUCSU Vice President Sadik Kayem noted that the university administration has yet to take effective steps toward organizing the next election or including it in the academic calendar.
