Jamaica Labour Party calls for sanctions against PNP members

The governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is demanding sanctions against People’s National Party (PNP) members Mikael Phillips and Dr. Angela Brown Burke following an incident in the House of Representatives on November 3, 2026.

JLP Deputy General Secretary Charles Sinclair alleged that Phillips engaged in violent and unbecoming conduct, including using expletives and moving aggressively toward MP Desmond McKenzie. Phillips has since acknowledged reacting angrily and using an expletive, expressing regret for his actions. However, the JLP maintains that his apology is insufficient and that he owes an unequivocal apology to Speaker Juliet Holness, the Parliament, and the public.

Additionally, the JLP has called for sanctions against Dr. Brown Burke. The party alleges that she violated parliamentary convention by imposing herself in the parliamentary aisle and committed a physical assault against Speaker Holness while shouting “coward”. The JLP described these actions as a new low for the Jamaican Parliament.
