Jamaica officials urge AI upskilling to boost competitiveness

In Jamaica, officials are urging citizens to focus on upskilling to remain competitive as artificial intelligence advances globally. Carlinton Burrell, Interim Divisional Manager for Information Services at the Scientific Research Council, stated that individuals should view AI as a tool to improve productivity and create new opportunities rather than a threat to job security.

Burrell emphasized that Jamaica should aim to build local capacity to develop innovative AI solutions to drive economic growth, rather than merely consuming existing technologies. He noted that increasing public understanding of AI is essential for fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and research within the country.
