Jamaica Prime Minister urges landowners to sell property for housing
Prime Minister Andrew Holness is calling on landowners with unused property in developed areas to sell to the Government to expand housing opportunities for vulnerable Jamaicans. Speaking during a housing unit handover in Greendale, Holness noted that a lack of suitable land for those without inherited assets has contributed to an increase in illegal land occupation and squatting.
In a separate update regarding the relocation of displaced residents from Cooper’s Pen, Holness announced that the procurement of basic amenities, including water and roads, has begun for the lots set aside for qualifying families. He emphasized that the Government will pay outright for any land used in the relocation process to assist those affected by recent demolitions.
