Jamaica targets sports-tourism growth with stadium redevelopment
Jamaica is positioning itself to capitalize on the growing global sports-tourism market, which is estimated to reach US$804 billion in 2025 and could exceed US$2.7 trillion by 2033. The country aims to leverage its significant athletic reputation to transform brand goodwill into a tangible tourism product.
Key infrastructure developments include the planned redevelopment of the National Stadium in Kingston, which is expected to feature 37,500 seats with roof coverage and a targeted completion date in 2029. Additionally, a US$550 million private-sector proposal has been floated for a complex in Trelawny. These projects aim to provide fans, athletes, and amateur runners with direct reasons to visit the island.
