Jamaica to provide school support for Cooper’s Pen families

The Jamaican government is mobilizing back-to-school support for families and children affected by recent home demolitions in Cooper’s Pen, Trelawny. The initiative aims to ensure students can return to school for the upcoming academic year starting September 7.

Following a visit to the community by Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Pearnel Charles Jr, and the Minister of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, were directed to coordinate the response. Affected families will receive assistance to cover the costs of uniforms, textbooks, and other essential school supplies.

The move addresses concerns raised by the Fi We Children Foundation (FWCF) regarding the ability of displaced children to attend school. Education Minister Dr. Morris Dixon stated that immediate steps are being taken to locate affected children in the area to facilitate their return to the classroom.
