Jamaica's emerging game development community leverages local culture

Jamaica is seeing the emergence of an ambitious indie game development community that utilizes local culture, folklore, and everyday experiences to create content for global platforms like Steam. The Jamaica Game Developer Society (JGDS), founded in 2013, supports this growing sector through education, networking, and industry connections.

Glen Henry, a spokesperson and organizer for the JGDS, noted that developers are successfully expressing themselves through unique perspectives. While the community is releasing games to international audiences, Henry emphasized that the industry requires more homegrown support to develop sustainable pathways for the creative sector.
