Jamal Musiala to miss Bayern Munich's Bundesliga opener
FC Bayern Munich has decided that Jamal Musiala will miss the Bundesliga season opener against VfB Stuttgart. The 23-year-old midfielder is recovering from two on-pitch collapses experienced during pre-season friendlies against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim.
Musiala has been diagnosed with a neurological dysfunction causing absence seizures, which are brief periods of loss of consciousness. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the club has been aware of the condition since last season, noting it had been well-managed until a recent reduction in medication led to these recent episodes.
The medical team has since adjusted his medication dosage, a process expected to take 10 to 14 days to reach full effectiveness. While specialists have cleared Musiala to continue his professional football career, the club is prioritizing a gradual return to training to ensure his safety. He is expected to participate in team training sessions later this week, with a potential return to competitive play as early as the second matchday against Schalke 04.
