JAMB to establish UTME examination centre in Ottawa, Canada
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada. Expected to begin operations in 2027, the centre aims to serve Nigerians living in Canada and across North America, reducing the need for candidates to travel to Nigeria to sit for the exam.
Beyond the expansion to Canada, alternative pathways for university admission in Nigeria remain available for students who face challenges with the standard UTME route. These include programmes such as the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB), the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB), pre-degree programmes, and diploma courses. Additionally, the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) offers a distinct admission structure from the regular UTME process.
