JAMB to manage all HND admissions in Nigerian polytechnics
The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has announced that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will now manage all Higher National Diploma (HND) admissions. This directive applies to polytechnics, allied institutions, colleges of nursing sciences, and colleges of health technology.
According to a circular signed by NBTE Executive Secretary Prof. Idris Bugaje, the decision follows a meeting between the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and stakeholders including JAMB, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and the Federal Ministry of Education. The move aims to centralize the admission process and prevent “illegal and compromised admissions” that could interfere with students' eligibility for NYSC mobilization after graduation.
As part of the new guidelines, the NBTE will develop specific HND admission protocols for JAMB to implement on a digital platform. Additionally, for part-time admissions, the proportion of part-time students has been capped at 50 percent of each institution’s approved full-time quota.
