Jamel rockt den Förster festival begins after weather delays

The «Jamel rockt den Förster» rock festival in Jamel, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, commenced on Saturday following weather-related delays. Heavy rain had previously prevented equipment transport, but organizers managed to stabilize the ground with wood chips to allow the program to proceed.

Beyond the music, the festival serves as a political statement against right-wing extremism. Organizers Birgit and Horst Lohmeyer established the event in 2007 to counter local neo-Nazi efforts in the village. This year, the organizers also presented the Democracy Prize to Europaschule Rövershagen for its work in addressing National Socialist history.
