James Adio released after court remand in Nigeria

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) announced that James Adio, the immediate past President of the Federal University Oye‑Ekiti Students’ Union Government, has been released following his remand by a Magistrate Court in Ekiti State. NANS President Akinteye Babatunde posted on X that the release was a "victory for justice" and praised the NANS Joint Campus Committee Chairman in Ekiti State and the association’s National Head of Administration for their roles during Adio’s detention.

NANS described the original remand as a miscarriage of justice, stating that Adio was the complainant in the case, faced no criminal charges, and accused the Directorate of Public Prosecutions and the presiding magistrate of bias. The student body had threatened peaceful protests at the Ekiti State High Court, the magistrate court, and the DPP office while demanding his release.
