Blunt addressed the rumors on X by sharing an article by journalist Dean Piper, which characterizes the online accusations as an “internet lynching.” Piper argues that the timeline does not align with the claims; while social media users pointed to 2009 photographs of Panettiere and Blunt together in Cannes as evidence, Panettiere was 19 or nearly 20 at the time of those photos, whereas the incident in her memoir occurred when she was 18. Additionally, Piper noted that the description of Panettiere fleeing the room and hiding elsewhere on the boat contradicts the fact that she and Blunt were seen socializing together multiple times following the event.
