James Bond franchise updates: Danny Boyle on film departure and new comic series

Director Danny Boyle has provided new insight into why his involvement with a James Bond film ended in 2018. Speaking at the BFI London Film Festival, Boyle stated that producers “just got cold feet” regarding a script he had developed with collaborator John Hodge. Boyle chose to depart the project rather than move forward with material that deviated from the story he and Hodge had envisioned.

In other franchise developments, IDW Publishing and Ian Fleming Publications have announced a partnership to launch a new James Bond comic book series. Written by Grant Morrison, the initial six-part story arc is titled “Sunbreaker.” The series aims to place the iconic spy in contemporary settings, addressing modern themes such as artificial intelligence and fake news.
