James Cameron criticizes character deaths in Alien 3
Director James Cameron has criticized the decision to kill off key characters in the film Alien 3. Speaking on Michael Biehn’s podcast, Cameron expressed frustration over the removal of Hicks, Newt, and Bishop, noting that the film discarded the emotional goodwill built around these protagonists in the previous installment, Aliens.
Cameron argued that replacing these established characters with a new cast of convicts—whom he felt the audience would want to see die rather than survive—was a poor creative choice. The characters Hicks and Newt die off-screen during the opening sequence when their escape vehicle crashes on the prison planet Fiorina 161, while the android Bishop is later deactivated.
