James Cameron discusses new Terminator film and franchise direction

Director James Cameron has confirmed he is preparing to work on a new script for the Terminator franchise once his current commitments to Avatar are completed. Cameron noted that he intends to focus on solving narrative challenges, specifically regarding how to maintain the science fiction element in a modern context.

Cameron stated that the seventh film in the series will not feature Arnold Schwarzenegger, noting that the previous film, Terminator: Dark Fate, served as a conclusion to Schwarzenegger's role as the T-800. The director expressed a desire to explore a broader interpretation of the franchise, including themes of time wars and super intelligence, rather than operating within a comfort zone.
