James Cameron Says Poor Box‑Office for Avatar: Fire and Ash Could End Franchise

Director James Cameron warned that if the upcoming third installment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, released in December 2025, fails to meet box‑office expectations, the saga may be concluded earlier than the planned five‑film schedule extending to 2031. Cameron noted the financial risk and said he would consider ending the series, though he retains ideas for up to a sixth or seventh film and would remain a producer. He added that a failure could lead him to write a book to answer lingering questions. The first two Avatar films have collectively earned about $5.2 billion worldwide.

Separately, the home‑video market will see an "Avatar Ultimate 3‑Movie Collection" launched on 2 October 2026 in Germany. The box set includes all three released films on 4K Ultra HD and Blu‑ray across nine discs, plus a bonus disc, art book and extensive behind‑the‑scenes material, offered by LEONINE and Amazon.
